Great New York Noodletown

I LOVE Great New York NoodleTown for two reasons: 1. Kick ass fast waiters. 2. Excellent Food served fast!!

This place has a menu the size of an encyclopedia. Before getting there its best to have an understanding of what you can probably eat at a Chinese restaurant (ie rice noodles) and what you can’t eat (ie dumplings). Check out their extensive menu by looking at menupages. Armed with this information you can then ask for clarification when ordering. For example, you should KNOW before you get there that Singapore Rice Noodles is usually gluten free so when you ask, confirm there is no soy sauce and they are made with rice noodles. This place makes that dish and its safe!

Salt Baked Shrimp

My FAVORITE thing to get at Great New York Noodletown is Salt Baked Shrimp.

What this tastes like is shrimp with a very crispy crust on the outside. Its so rare that I get to eat something fried making this dish a real treat. It reminds me of anything that is crispy fried but with a lot more taste…its not overwhelmingly salty.

Its served with  jalapeño peppers as a garnish. These add a little kick (not screaming hot) to the dish.

Great New York Noodletown Hot SauceI also love to have it with Great New York Noodletown’s signature hot sauce which is at every table. Its hot oil combined with Red Pepper flakes. Superb! Use it sparingly at first until you get the hang of the fiery flavor.

Shrimp Fried Rice Great New York Noodletown

The other item I love at Great New York Noodletown is the Shrimp Fried Rice. I say when I order this “No SOY SAUCE.” You should do the same.

Its a fresh dish, very much like the Fried Rice I have eaten in China. Its not heavy, has vegetables you would expect in Fried Rice (peas) and it also has a fried egg throughout. The shrimp are rock shrimp so they are sweeter than your average Fried Rice.

Ordering two dishes at this restaurant is PLENTY for 2 people. Don’t let the prices deceive you. The portions remind me of a restaurant I went to once with my parents in the Mid-West (Michigan) that prided itself on HUGE PORTIONS. I remember ordering a side of bacon that was literally a POUND of bacon.
